Success for the Entire Community
Employing people with disabilities offers many advantages to you and your business. Before the worker arrives for their first day, much preliminary work has occurred. A representative from Community Employment Service will meet with you to determine your job needs. A comprehensive job analysis will be performed to ensure that the right employee will be placed on the job. Then, an on-site job coach/trainer can assist your staff with training supports if necessary. The job coach/trainer will continue with the employee until job tasks are performed independently. If additional tasks are assigned, the coach/trainer may be able to assist. Follow-up services will begin after initial training and will continue for ninety days and possibly long-term for some individuals.
Areas of Responsibility:
- To provide work related services for DD individuals who have the desire and ability to work in competitive jobs in the community. The actual services needed are determined by the team planning concept which is lead by the individual's service support administrator (case manager).
- To provide work related services for adults with disabilities as a provider of services through the Rehabilitation Services Commission, which includes the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired. Some of the services provided are: community-based work assessments, job-seeking-skills training, job development/placement, on-the-job coaching, and job follow-up.
- To provide work related services for adults needing assistance and referred to C.E.S. by the Department of Job & Family Services (JFS), per a contract with JFS as a provider of employment services. Services provided are the same as for BVR/BSVI.
- C.E.S. operates the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) Youth Program which is funded by a federal grant to provide career guidance, job skills training, and employment or work experiences, for at risk youth in Coshocton County. The grant is managed by Job & Family Services (JFS) and they determine eligibility for referrals to the program. Some of the eligibility factors considered are; age, skill deficiencies, family income, foster homes, or court involvement. Referrals can be made to JFS for eligibility determination by teachers or school officials, service and support coordinators, social service agencies, or juvenile/adult courts. The contact person at JFS is Robin Sharier.
